Description

Designed as a color sorting activity, this three-page worksheet focuses on classifying familiar objects by color using eight colorful houses as sorting categories. The first page includes four houses representing red, green, blue, and yellow, while the second page introduces orange, brown, gray, and purple.

Each house has a colored roof with the corresponding color word and four windows outlined in the same color, providing visual cues for each color category. The third page contains 32 pictures of colored objects to cut out and sort. Children observe the color of each object, identify the corresponding color house, and then place or paste the picture onto one of its windows.

Learning Focus

  • Color discrimination: distinguishing eight colors (red, green, blue, yellow, orange, brown, gray, and purple).
  • Classification by color: grouping different objects based on their color.
  • Selective attention: using color as the sorting criterion while ignoring differences in object type, shape, and function.
  • Visual matching: matching the color of each object with the color cues on the houses.
  • Fine motor coordination: cutting out the house cards and object pictures, then placing and pasting each picture on the matching house.

Learning Concept

  • Classification: grouping objects according to a shared attribute. In this activity, color serves as the classification criterion.
  • Attribute recognition: identifying color as the relevant characteristic while disregarding differences in object type, shape, and function.
  • Category formation: understanding that different objects can belong to the same group when they share the same color.
  • Multiple representations: recognizing each color through its colored roof, matching window frames, and printed color word.
  • Word-color correspondence: associating each printed color word with its corresponding visual color.
